Common Heart Ailments in the Elderly

Heart diseases are one of the prevalent conditions we encounter as we provide advance care in Hermitage, Tennessee.

Cardiovascular problems can be caused by many risk factors — lifestyle, obesity, physical inactivity, smoking and secondhand smoke exposure, and more. The heart and blood vessels stiffen as people age and this is a normal part of aging. And as you grow older, the more you become prone to heart ailments and require health services in Tennessee.

  • Hypertension

High blood pressure is also a risk factor for various heart diseases, including coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction, and stroke — all of which need hands-on assistance. And people must avoid hypertension in their senior years.

  • Coronary Heart Disease

Also called Coronary Artery Disease, CHD is caused by a buildup of plaque in the wall of the coronary arteries that supply blood to the heart. The plaque comes from deposits of cholesterol and other substances that narrows the artery over time — blocking the blood flow to your heart muscle and the rest of your body.

  • Myocardial Infarction

Also known as a heart attack, the heart starts to die slowly as it lacks enough blood flow. This is a life-threatening emergency that needs immediate attention, otherwise, can cause permanent damage or death.

  • Stroke

This condition is considered both a neurological and cardiovascular disease and is sometimes called a brain attack. It occurs when something blocks the blood supply to the brain or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts — causing long-lasting damages that require disabilitiy services, or even death.

Should you need transportation services for a visit to your cardiologist, we can take you there safely. Call AdvanceCare Health Services LLC to schedule your trip.
